Cycle 2: The River is our Heritage

The River that runs through the center of Huanuco is the gift of one generation to the next and each generation is responsible for being stewards of the earth and water.  The river is polluted and dirty and this generation of students are going to do something about it.  They are working to clean the river.  To do this, they learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and specifically, Goal 6 Clean Water and Sanitation. "Access to safe water and sanitation and sound management of freshwater ecosystems are essential to human health and to environmental sustainability and economic prosperity."  The students became part of a worldwide effort to engage the communities in water and sanitation management.

Actions: Students created taskforces to clean up the trash.  They learned how to measure and record the pollution in the water.
